Galerie Terminus and Galerie Barbara von Stechow present The New Horizon Project.
In 2016, the art- and car-enthusiast, Dr. Christian Zschocke, decided to commission an artist to design a paint coat for the famous BMW E3 model, to commemorate the car’s historical role - on its 50th anniversary - as a milestone for BMW and a symbol of challenge and successful change. The E3 - full of then innovative and groundbreaking technology - was introduced in 1968 which was a time of change in Europe and America: it was when humans first circled the moon they eventually set foot on, heralding a new age and expanding our horizon. Selected in an international art contest, the artist Heiner Meyer’s design of the car reflects the E3’s visionary role 50 years ago and places it in its original contest.
Besides a perfectionist restoration of the car - which is fully functional - applying the highest attention to all and any detail, the paint coat was executed by the legendary German aerosol artist and car-racer, Walter Maurer, who also painted many of the well known BMW Art Car series. Through this work, Walter Maurer collaborated with famous artists Alexander Calder, Frank Stella, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and just recently with the contemporary Chinese artist, Cao Fei. In unique contrast to these cars, the design of the “New Horizon” passes the official BMW Art Car paradigm of using race cars, by using a legendary historical car as a canvas for its visionary message of change.
DeXtinction by Interprospekt and Avant Mining
Avant Mining and Interprospekt present DeXtinction, an exhibition that brings the archaic and primordial into our postmodern present, highlighting the beauty and magnificence of Earth’s natural treasures. Pieces on display include artifacts and jewels from more than a hundred million years ago. A mother and juvenile Allosaur, that are 120-million years old are available, as is an astonishingly well-preserved Dinosaur Egg Nest from the Cretaceous period, 75-million years ago. These amazing artifacts are offset by the dazzling beauty of hand selected minerals and gems from the Zigras and Pohl collections. Avant Mining will feature sustainably and ethically mined quartz crystals which are considered the finest in the world. Also featured is a 75-million-year-old Ammolite from Canada, which possesses a rare opalized surface displaying all colors in the light spectrum. Humanities’ collective actions drastically affect the fate of the planet, and this collection of ancient treasures symbolize the unification we need now, while reconnecting us to the natural world.
