Sun Gallery Presents Luminous Attention at Art Miami 2026
Founded in Seoul in 1977, Sun Gallery presents Luminous Attention at Art Miami 2026, bringing together paintings and craft-based practices by six artists to explore the moments when light settles upon material.
Featuring works by Sangwon Lee, Yujin Kang, Youngji Lee, Jian Ryu, Jiyeon Song, and Jungsoo Kim, the presentation centers on a shared question: How does sensation become material?
Sangwon Lee and Yujin Kang pursue the same luminous qualities of water from different perspectives. Sangwon Lee looks toward the sky, while Yujin Kang explores the view from beneath the water’s surface. Youngji Lee and Jian Ryu accumulate light through repetitive, hand-driven processes using hanji (traditional Korean paper) and mother-of-pearl, materials deeply rooted in Korean tradition. Jiyeon Song repeatedly paints and erases the surfaces of the city, building layers of memory, while Jungsoo Kim transforms his longing for home and his mother into luminous images of azaleas, painted after returning to Korea following many years abroad.
Working across distinct media and visual languages, the six artists share a sustained commitment to tracing, through repeated acts of the hand, the ways in which light inhabits material. Luminous Attention is a record of this ongoing pursuit.
