About
Our program is oriented toward artistic practices that arise from territories burdened by an overproduction of history—countries where discontinuities, ideological shifts, and unresolved narratives constitute the very fabric of everyday experience. Artists working within such contexts often engage in processes of translation, displacement, and reconfiguration, producing works that articulate the tension between memory and materiality, between inherited values and speculative futures. Simultaneously, we remain committed to supporting emerging voices—artists at the beginning of their trajectories, including students—whose work is still in the process of articulation.
For Art Miami 2025, Bioskop Balkan presents a focused selection of recent works by painter Dragan Zdravković, whose practice explores psychological landscapes shaped by historical rupture, personal memory, and the shifting cultural realities of East Europe-Balkan. As an intellectual, during prolonged periods of political instability and transition, he develops an intimate pattern of either embracing or distancing. His layered surfaces, strong palettes, and recurring architectural motifs evoke spaces of introspection and quiet tension—suggesting thresholds, absences, and the emotional residue of lived experience.
Zdravković’s work has been featured at the 57th Venice Biennale, and in benefit auctions organized by Sotheby’s, Christie’s, and the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation. His paintings are held in major collections including the Museum of Contemporary Art Belgrade, Christen Sveaas Art Foundation, and the Grieg Art Collection. For Art Miami, we present a new large-scale canvas created specifically for the fair, alongside selected works that reflect his ongoing inquiry into cultural resilience and spatial perception.
This presentation is supported by the Saša Marčeta Foundation, whose long-term partnership enables Bioskop Balkan to sustain programming that foregrounds artistic integrity, diverse perspectives, and the evolving landscape of contemporary art in the region.
