About
Bioskop Balkan is a space for contemporary art located in the heart of Belgrade’s cultural district, adjacent to the National Museum and National Theatre. Originally a historic cinema hall, the venue retains its original name—*bioskop*, derived from the Greek *bios* (life) and *skopein* (to observe)—philosophically capturing the essence of watching life unfold. Today, the space has been reimagined as a site for artistic inquiry and curatorial experimentation. With nearly 800 square meters of exhibition space across four architecturally diverse halls, Bioskop Balkan offers exceptional conditions for complex installations, multimedia presentations, and site-specific works.
For Art Miami 2025, Bioskop Balkan presents a focused selection of recent works by painter Dragan Zdravković, whose practice explores psychological landscapes shaped by historical rupture, personal memory, and the shifting cultural realities of Southeast Europe. His layered surfaces, strong palettes, and recurring architectural motifs evoke spaces of introspection and quiet tension—suggesting thresholds, absences, and the emotional residue of lived experience.
Zdravković’s work has been featured at the 57th Venice Biennale, and in benefit auctions organized by Sotheby’s, Christie’s, and the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation. His paintings are held in major collections including the Museum of Contemporary Art Belgrade, Christen Sveaas Art Foundation, and the Grieg Art Collection. For Art Miami, we present a new large-scale canvas created specifically for the fair, alongside selected works that reflect his ongoing inquiry into cultural resilience and spatial perception.
This presentation is supported by the Saša Marčeta Foundation, whose long-term partnership enables Bioskop Balkan to sustain programming that foregrounds artistic integrity, diverse perspectives, and the evolving landscape of contemporary art in the region.
