Frank Stella (USA 05/12/1936 - USA 05/04/2024)

About

Frank Stella (1936–2024) was an American painter, printmaker and sculptor, and a central figure in postwar abstraction. Born in Malden, Massachusetts, he graduated from Princeton University before moving to New York in 1958. His early Black Paintings helped establish new directions in abstract art, followed by innovative shaped canvases and bold geometric compositions. His practice later expanded into elaborate reliefs and freestanding sculpture, incorporating industrial materials and digital technologies. Throughout his career, he explored the relationships between color, form and physical space, continually extending the possibilities of abstraction.
