About

Elemore Morgan, Jr., was born in Baton Rouge in 1931. After serving in the Air Force during the Korean War, he graduated from the Ruskin School of Fine Art in Oxford, England. He returned to Louisiana and in 1968 became a professor of Fine Art at the University of Southwestern Louisiana, where he taught until 1998. In 2006, Morgan was given a major retrospective at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art: "Art and Life in Louisiana: Elemore Morgan Sr, and Elemore Morgan, Jr," which included the pioneering Louisiana photography work of his father. Morgan received a Krasner-Pollock Foundation grant in 2007, which allowed him to travel to New York City where, again working in the open air, he completed multi-paneled paintings of the Manhattan skyline. Near the end of his life he also completed several Crescent City riverscapes. Morgan passed away in 2008 at the age of 76.
