Markus Klinko (Switzerland 1961 -)
About
MARKUS KLINKO is an award-winning celebrity photographer and director. He has achieved great international recognition after working with many of today’s most iconic stars. He has photographed the likes of Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, David Bowie, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Will Smith and his editorial clients include Vogue, GQ, Vanity Fair, Harper’s Bazaar, and Interview magazine.
In 2019 Klinko unveiled photos of David Bowie that have never been shared publicly before, originally captured for the artist’s 2002 Heathen album. The extensive series ranges from surreal and highly stylised characters - such as Bowie carrying a baby or holding a wolf on a lead - to pared-back portraits. The set also features the final album artwork, showing the artist as a blind man with white, glazed eyes. All the images were inspired by the songs on the album and co-created with Bowie.
Many of Klinko’s famous celebrity photographs can be seen in his coffee table book ICONS (Perseus).
Lincoln Center in New York presented an art exhibition showcasing many prints from the book and since then, art galleries and museums around the world have featured his work.
