About
Daniel Cherbuin, born in 1971 in Zurich, Switzerland, lives and works between his home city and Miami. Active in Zurich’s underground scene in the 1990s, he began his career as a filmmaker, collaborating with bands such as Yello and Division Kent. This early immersion in music and visual culture inspired him to push the boundaries of video art, making it more dynamic and accessible — far beyond the limits of traditional gallery spaces.
Cherbuin is known for his distinctive visual language, blending 1960s pop culture imagery with cinematic techniques. His works are both playful and refined, combining humor and intelligence in a way that distinguishes him within the field. He has contributed significantly to reshaping video art, infusing the genre with renewed energy, creativity, and a striking visual balance.
He regularly presents his work at Photo Basel during Art Basel week in Switzerland, where collectors eagerly anticipate each new series. His iconic motifs — eyes, swimming pools, and other captivating visuals — continue to develop, keeping him at the forefront of contemporary video art. His works are included in major collections worldwide, solidifying his status as one of the leading figures in the medium today.
