About
Aya Murata (b.1979, Kyoto) uses “Nerikomi” technique (patterns made by layering and kneading threads of coloured clay) to transform clays into tentacle-like organic shapes similar to flowers, plants and corals. Murata intends to visualize the charm of life, with such colours and patterns expressing “lust,” “jealousy,” “envy,” and “aspiration” that can be both poison and nourishment for human growth.
