Persimmon - Andrea Torres Balaguer

Andrea Torres Balaguer Persimmon
Her portraits do not show, but conceal the women faces he decides to represent, with dreamlike and ambiguous loopholes: it’s up to the viewer to interpret them, try to imagine a story, their life, where they come from.
The images of “The Unknown” play with composition and colors adding depth and charm. Between reality and fiction, photography and painting, realism and symbolism.

Biography : Andrea Torres Balaguer’s work is influenced by dreams and surrealism, exploring the relationship between femininity and nature through the symbolism and dream transcription technique. Inspired by references to psychoanalysis theory and magic realism, her pictures experiment with the conscious-subconscious. Thinking about the scene-action concept, she creates pictures that suggest stories and invites the spectator to interpret them, searching to experiment with the boundaries between reality and fiction. Moon series was made thinking about the light moon phases, exploring the relationship between femininity and nature through symbolism. Each one of the seven images act as a ritual devoted to some natural phenomenon, belief or aesthetic idea that is related to the moon cycle. Each one of the scenes has their own ritual and meaning; Autumn with the milk glasses is related to maternity and fertility, Eve reminds us the stars and the people we love that have passed away. Marble is a ritual of remembrance, purification and goal setting. In new moon’s dimness, one puts oneself symbolically in moon’s place, adopting its power to leave the unwanted behind and to commit to new achievements. Moon series goes from the compliment to mature beauty in White Pearl, to the imagination and stories like the Alice in Wonderland reference in Gingerbread. The table structure is a constant related to “home”, a personal representation of the values based on family learning, a meeting point where the character, the object and the environment converge. The different objects on the table are the point of light in the darkness, where the attention of the spectator goes like the bright moon in a night sky. All the images were made also as a ritual: taken in the same place with natural light on the same hour from different days and seasons. But overall the importance of every scene is the spectator’s interpretation: how each of us can discover things in the shades and how the dif
