    Biography : 1941 Alain Clément was born in Neuilly-sur-Seine. 1962 Paris: Drawing at the studio in La Grande Chaumière, engraving and printing in Atelier 17 (S. W. Hayter). 1965 Settles near Montpellier and establishes a studio for intaglio printing and typography. 1970-1978 Teaches at the École des Beaux-Arts in Montpellier. Leaves the École des Beaux-Arts in Montpellier and starts teaching in Nîmes. Exhibition at Musée Fabre, Montpellier, where he shows works from seven years. 1979-1985 Settles in Nîmes. Is appointed director of the School of Fine Arts in Nîmes in 1985. 1990-1999 Stops teaching and being director of the École des Beaux-Arts in Nîmes. Stay in New York. First series of wooden sculptures with polychrome painting. 2000 The practice of sculpture is intensified. Numerous monumental sculptures for private collections in France and abroad. Trip to Tangier for the purpose of verifying the motive of light and the colour of Matisse that are haunting him and for the purpose of a long series of paintworks in free and coloured arabesques. Installation in Berlin. Construction of several sets of monumental sculptures installed particularly in the Nyrox Foundation in Johannesburg and in Suzhou in China. He is living and working in Nîmes, Paris and Berlin.

    Detailed Description : Johannes Heisig is one of the well-known members of the Heisig Family, the famous East Germany family of painters, who has established himself in Leipzig, Dresden and Berlin, Germany, and now count among the most renowned representatives of contemporary figurative art in Germany. As son of Bernhard Heisig, the renowned artist of the former GDR, Johannes Heisig was raised in immediate contact with the artistic environment of the Leipzig School. Coming from that tradition of socio-critical realism and the pathos of the painting of the early GDR, Johannes Heisig has since begun pursuing new paths of objectivity in his artistic work. The visual power of the experience and the observations that he collects with an incisive eye are conveyed using an expressive and raw visual language with which he removes the realistic image from its familiar surroundings and transforms it, often after months of reworking and over-painting, into something unfamiliar and unique.

    Detailed Description : Volker Stelzmann’s paintings, intriguingly reminiscent of the old masters, are characterized by multi-figure compositions emerging from an inferred and dim background. The countenance and bearing of the figures prove particularly confounding for the viewer: women and men are to be seen – walking, bending over or in the middle of sweeping gestures – amidst urban scenarios and/or mannerist Biblical scenes. Street scenes, carnivals, circuses, varieties and biblical locals, especially those of the Passion, are the stages, where the artist’s characters act out their allegorical roles in the theatrum mundi. The account of the Passion, with the scenes of the Christ carrying the Cross or the Last Supper, holds a particular position in the work of Stelzmann, for within this narrative the philosophical question of human existence is placed the most clearly. Within his occasionally grotesque-appearing pictorial scenes, Stelzmann uses his distinctly own and subtle irony to explore social identity as well as the human characters – and all their modes of behavior – populating it. Absent eyes gazing from exaggerated, puppet-like and voiceless faces reveal forlorn souls of society, offer a fascinating manifestation of Stelzmann's merciless bit simultaneously humane image of humanity, and encourage philosophical reflection within the viewer.
