Detailed Description : Chung Chi Yung (b. 1972) was born in Korea, where he works and lives today. He graduated from Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, USA, and Yale University, New Haven, Painting department in 1998. Currently, Chung is a professor in the Fine Arts Department at Dankook University, Cheonan. Chung’s paintings emulate photographs and imageries selected from magazines and footage; each is a potent relic of a photographic image. His interest in photorealism is derived mainly from painterly aesthetics. Chung’s intentional use of soft half-tones in his work signifies the fading memory of historical events and, in addition, a spectrum of which cannot be perceived by the camera lens. He delivers what cannot be shown through photography in photorealistic painting. What he does is beyond merely copying a photographic image, he implement photorealistic technique in order to express what cannot be expressed in the field of photography. That proves his photorealism is entirely new. He has exhibited widely and recent exhibitions include: Gallery Baton, Seoul, Dongdaemun Design Plaza Design Museum, Seoul, Korean Cultural Center, New Delhi, India, and Hong Kong Visual Art Center, Hong Kong.

Detailed Description : Kim Sang Gyun (b. 1967) lives and works in Seoul, South Korea. He studied Sculpture at Seoul National University, Seoul, Korea and State University of New York, USA. Kim creates an exceptional comment about the city and its actual boundaries of interior and exterior space with two visual components. One is the reproduction of facades of whole buildings and another is each facade being formed as a kind of a block which portrays the heaviness it contains. He found the form of building’s exterior by observing himself. He exactly measured it and miniaturized it into a three dimensional one. Each model got piled up like a brick and got reconstructed looking like a huge scales wall or a surface. In other words, A city form made of millions of concrete facades transfers in a linear perspective almost like a puzzle. Consequently, it gets reconstructed like a huge scale wall or a surface. Kim had exhibitions at museums and galleries worldwide including the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul, Korea, Seoul Museum of Art, Seoul, korea, Samuel Dorsky Museum of art, New York, USA, and He is also selected by Vermont Studio Center Freeman Fellowship, SongEun Art Grand-Prix, Korea, and his works are in numerous collections.

Detailed Description : Koen van den Broek (b.1973) lives and works in Antwerp, Belgium, and he is considered one of the most emerging figures in the art world. He has completed undergraduate degree on architecture at Leuven, changed his major to art, and studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Antwerp, Belgium, and the Academy of Visual Arts in Netherlands. Having studied architecture, the artist explores geometric space created for the functional purposes like roads and transportation structures. His works originate from the photographs taken during his travels, and in the process of being transferred onto the canvas, abstractness is applied, and, at the same time, the dissolution of image and sequential reactions of emphasis occur. The emphasized elements, as a result, are empty space and shadows, but the depiction of details on the objects is omitted while semi-abstract output is born as lines and surfaces are highlighted or faded into primary colors. Koen continues presenting his works at world leading galleries and museums such as San Francisco Museum of Modern Art(SFMoMA), San Francisco, S.M.A.K, Gent, and his paintings are in the collection of SFMoMA, Los Angeles County Museum, Los Angeles and Leeum Collection, Seoul.

Detailed Description : Koh San Keum (b. 1966) lives and works in Seoul, South Korea. Koh studied at Ewha Womans University, Seoul, Korea and Pratt Institute, New York, USA. Koh selects ‘image’ from Novels, newspapers, poems, popular songs, essays and law books. She begins to transcribe a part of a book that she has read, a part that has left a decisive impression. She is equipped with a professional sensibility regarding arranging the size of the panel and the number of letters to be replaced with pearls. She precisely adjusts the panel’s outer rim with her graph paper and carpenter’s square; she follows a scientist-like accuracy in determining the number of lines for the transcription. Needless to say, the foundation of such mechanical and mathematical arrangement lies under in visual formation or aesthetics. The regular movement gradually begins to operate. Her transcription, pasting of pearls, proceeds according to a standard based on the number of letters and spaces between them. The semantic context of sentences disappears while a morphological, visual formation appears instead. Koh’s works are included as the collection of major art institutions and organizations like Seoul Museum of Art, Seoul, Gyeonggi Museum of Art, Ansan, and National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul.

Detailed Description : Peter Stichbury (b. 1969) lives and works in New Zealand. Stichbury completed Postgraduate studies at Elam School of Fine Arts, University of Auckland (Masters / Honors Scholarship), Auckland, Australia. Interestingly, the subject matter that he has been dealing with stems from experiences in his childhood. When he was seven, he thought that he saw something shooting across the sky in broad daylight. Though he no longer believes that the object was anything out of the ordinary, the moment was a creative sucker punch for the portraitist: At the age of forty- six, Stichbury is enraptured by UFOs as ever and devotes his work to them. His works’ delicate, pale countenance and their preoccupied gaze suggest that the close encounter has left him removing any firm sense of a singular reality. Stichbury’s exaggerated realism reinforces a sense of otherworldliness and an internal disorientation, both of which communicate the subject’s ambivalence towards traditional assumptions about the primacy of the human organism in the cosmos. Stichbury had won the prestigious Wallace Art Award, New Zealand in the year he graduated. He has participated in tumorous exhibitions worldwide such as Berlin, Hongkong, Auckland, LA, and Seoul. His works are in the collections of Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa and Auckland Art Gallery, Auckland.

Detailed Description : Rosa Loy (b. 1958) lives and works in Leipzig, Germany. She was educated at the Humboldt University Berlin and Studied at the Academy of Visual Arts, Leipzig, Germany. She is one of the painters in Germany dealing with the mystery of the woman, the new femininity and the new romanticism. The romanticism has a great tradition in Saxon painting. Loy brings up the courage to integratefemininity and beauty in her figurative paintings and offers a multi-layeredinterpretation of her work. Particular interest she has in traditional knowledge of women, femininity and the associated new school of mysteries. She works incasein on canvas, paper and various techniques in different graphic techniques. Her work also reflects a living partner relationship with her husband, Neo Rauch, with whom she has been married since 1985. As a successful artistcouple, they both act on the international stage. They each provide an independent oeuvre, which is on the one hand fed by the variety and on the other hand from the similarities of the two artists. As a working couple, they document how the forces of the masculine and the feminine can be intertwined successfully with each other. They form a successful painter cooperating pair, each with its sovereign character. Loy participated in numerous exhibitions in various art museums around the world in the topic of Leipzig painters, such as Drents Museum, Netherlands, ESSL Museum, Austria. In addition, her works are included in the collection of major art institutions and organizations like Museum of Modern Art, New York, Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, and Deutsche Bank Collection.

Detailed Description : Suzanne Song (b. 1974) lives and works in New York, USA, and gained MFA degree at Yale University,New Haven,USA, and Clemson University, Clemson, USA. She explores the familiar notion “Space” which does not exist in a single form but rather in an incorporeal and abstract subject. As Ferdinand de Saussure(1857-1913, Switzerland) insisted that the relation between the signifer and the signifed is arbitrary, Song’s “Space” can be intuitive at the same time considerably receptive. She sets up a cognitively familiar environment in order to create her own space. She situates the white or light grey colors on the upper part of a canvas and arranges the dark monotoned ones on the below with a balanced proportion. This composition plays as a mechanism reminding of walls of offices or schools that are in an identical appearance in many cultures. When lines vertically traverse in a space, they cast shadows on the background which is a standard plane. The shadows convert the two-dimensional space into multidimensional one and stimulate the dynamics of geometric relationships between spaces and spaces, lines and faces, and the horizontal and the vertical. Song presented her works at The Drawing Center, New York, and Doosan gallery, New York. She also is selected by Smack Mellon Fellowship, George R. Bunker Award(Yale School of Art) and NYFA(New York Foundation of the Arts) Fellowship.
